The tourism sector could be the one for you to start working in the Canary Islands, as this field is in a certain expansion, especially in the main islands, such as Gran Canaria and Tenerife.

Or there are many, for example, who prefer to invest in real estate.

This is also a great way to try to secure a passive income, that is to buy a house to rent to tourists, relying on websites that are important services or seeking the cooperation of specialized local agencies.

But there are other important opportunities to keep in mind if you want to decide to work in the Canary Islands.

Let's go into detail and describe what are all the possibilities that you have at the working level.

The best jobs in the Canary Islands

The Canary Islands can count on important opportunities in tourism, so one of the most important sectors in which to look for work is certainly that which concerns the restaurant and accommodation facilities.

But there are certainly those who can find important opportunities even as a digital nomad.

Precisely because life in the Canary Islands is not extremely expensive and because you can take advantage of a favorable tax regime, considering several factors, such as the possibility of being in contact with nature and living in a sort of "paradise on earth", there are those who move to work in the Canary Islands doing digital jobs.

Working remotely could be an important opportunity to take advantage of, also because fiber optics throughout the archipelago is in continuous expansion and there are many spaces dedicated to lend themselves as shared offices, which are known as coworking.

However, all jobs that have to do with technology and information are not to be neglected: telecommunications, optics and astrophysics, renewable energies, the audiovisual sector.

There are also those who choose to be surfing instructors.

First of all you have to report your presence at one of the Oficinas de Extranjeria.

Then you have to register at the Padrón Municipal, which corresponds to our registry office.

At this point, you can apply for the NIE, which is the tax code for foreigners, by contacting the Comisaría de Policía.

Finally, you can apply for an identification number called Tarjeta de Segurida Social, which allows you to get your pension and take advantage of health services and possibly unemployment.

These are health services that are completely and always free of charge.

Since as an Italian you are an EU citizen, you are covered for the first three months by presenting your European Health Card.

After 90 days, after the automatic coverage expires, you have to buy a private health insurance.

Which are the Canary Islands to move to

Most people know mainly some of the Canary Islands, such as Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

The whole archipelago however is made up of seven major islands, adding to those we have already mentioned El Hierro, La Gomera and La Palma, and six minor islands.

The island of Tenerife is the largest and the one most exposed to tourists.

Tenerife is mainly known for its natural beauty and here we find the Teide, which is the third highest volcano in the world.

Gran Canaria is known, especially the capital, Las Palmas, which manages to combine tranquility and nightlife rather lively.

Las Palmas is really a very popular destination to work in the Canary Islands and above all is one of the world capitals of digital nomads.

Fuerteventura, on the other hand, is the second largest island of the archipelago and is especially known for the opportunities it offers in the restaurant industry.

There are also natural jewels that can be found in Lanzarote: the whole island has been declared a Biosphere Reserve as a heritage protected by UNESCO.

El Hierro, La Gomera and La Palma are the smallest islands, but also the greenest of the entire Canary archipelago.

If we want to point out some characteristics, we can say that for example El Hierro is among the few islands in the world that are moving towards total energy autonomy.
